Timing: why the route is built in October
A residential route is a sequence, not a list. Properties are grouped so a crew can work a neighbourhood in one pass, which is what makes it possible to clear everyone before the morning commute rather than reaching the last few addresses at lunchtime.
That sequence has to be set before the season, and it is why mid-winter sign-ups are usually waitlisted. During a lake-effect week there is no slack in a route to insert a new property — every hour is already committed. Before the first storm
We stake driveway edges in autumn while the ground is still soft, marking the boundary, bed edges and irrigation heads. Once everything is buried those edges are invisible, and unstaked edges are the single most common cause of turf damage over a winter.

Seasonal contract
One price for the winter regardless of how it turns out. You are buying budget certainty and moving the risk of a heavy season to the contractor. In a snow belt that is usually what people want.
Per visit
You pay for what actually falls. Cheaper in a mild winter, considerably more expensive in a heavy one, and you carry the variance yourself.
Across the local market a standard residential driveway runs roughly $35–$60 per push or $450–$900 for the season. Protecting the property while it is cleared
- Staked edges so the operator can see where pavement ends and lawn begins
- Marked irrigation heads and bed edges, noted during the autumn survey
- Snow stacked deliberately — away from the accessible path to your door, and not uphill of it where meltwater will refreeze across the route
- Hand clearing at the entrance, where machine work would damage steps and thresholds
- Salt applied at measured rates, timed ahead of a freeze rather than after ice has bonded

Residential snow removal: common questions
When should I book for the coming winter?
October. Routes are planned and edges staked before the first plowable storm, and once a route is full there is no capacity to add a property mid-season without pushing everyone else later.
Do I have to call when it snows?
No. At the trigger depth the crew comes automatically — two inches by default. You can ask for a lower trigger if you want a cleaner driveway all winter; it means more visits and a higher seasonal price, and we will say so before you sign.
Will plowing damage my lawn or driveway?
It should not, and staking is the reason. Damage almost always traces back to unstaked edges or an operator who does not know the property. Both are avoided by surveying in autumn rather than meeting the driveway for the first time in a blizzard.
What happens during a multi-day lake-effect event?
A single visit does not resolve a thirty-hour band. What matters is whether the route comes back and how often, which is agreed in the contract rather than improvised. Dispatch runs 24/7 through the winter.
Is salting included?
It is available on request rather than applied automatically, because not every driveway needs it and over-salting damages concrete and plantings. Shaded and north-facing sections are the ones worth watching for refreeze.
How do I get a price for my driveway?
We survey the property before quoting — length, width, turning room, slope, hand-work surfaces and where the snow can go. Both the estimate and the on-site survey are free, and the number is written down before anything is signed.
